The energetic ska/punk sound of Sonic Boom Six is working it’s way to the Waterfront in Noriwch in a couple of weeks on the 14th October so I spoke to singer Laila about the band, their year so far and what’s coming up next for them.
Give them a listen on iTunes to see what you are in for on the 14th October.

Tyler Ayers - Backside Heelflip
Just a little post today after a fun but not so productive day photo-wise. Got the above sequence of Tyler at the newest “old” spot in Lowestoft. The Commercial Road Aldi, which has been shut for some time now, has been given a new lease of life after a few locals have been busy with some bags of cement and built a few new objects to make the place more than just manual pads.

This weekend see’s the London leg of the Nando’s Xperimental Skate Jam’s, with last weekend seeing one’s at Leicester and Leeds, which despite the rather odd corporate sponsorship, is being run by some heads who really know how to throw a good jam. Check out the website for more info and have a look at this sidewalk forum thread for some footage from the Leicester one.
There’s also a kinda cool spoof of the Mouse intro if you click read more.

Lowestoft three-piece Faster Than Robots opened Saturday night’s Wilde Club at the Norwich Arts Centre, treating the crowd to the six songs off of their new Answers on a Postcard EP. For once treated to a great sound set-up where you could John King’s voice perfectly for once. The EP recorded at Sick Room Studios in deepest darkest Norfolk is available to download for FREE in MP3 format with artwork by Sarah King here.
Download the EP as ZIP file (32Mb)

After trawling through the Grain Edit website I stumbled upon friend of a friend Stuart Kolkaovic’s work on there. Which jogged my memory into checking his website out as I hadn’t for a while. I thought I’d share his work with you so head over to his site or his blog for more of his lively work.
Some of you may recognise his work from Document’s Big Push DVD sleeve from a couple of year’s ago, which has just undergone a revival under the Sidewalk brand.

For those of you that missed out on the printed zines I produced a while ago, well you can now read them online without getting toner on your fingers. This is all thanks to the wonder that is the Flash page turning technology which the traditional magazine publisher’s seem to be grabbing left, right and centre. Anyway there are loads of these services, I used Issuu but there are others that allow you to add animation to the product such as this quite nice Waitrose online magazine.

Last night saw the launch gig for the Cold Hands debut EP at the Marquee in Norwich. The night started well with My Gay Boy (half of My Boy My Girl) and Magpied warming the crowd up. However it was a shame that some of the energy got lost during their technical problems with a bass amp. Despite this the songs the did play were full of energy with a brilliant last two songs bringing the crowd on to the stage and a ceremonial leap into the drum kit ending, from singer Cameron Black.
Check out some more photos on flickr.

I’m not quite sure how DC Shoes co-founder Ken Block ended up getting into rallying, however I am thankful to him for producing some incredible videos of his skillful driving. You may have seen him scare the pants off James may of Top Gear not so long ago. Well check out the Gymkhana videos on the DC Shoes Films YouTube page (in HD too).
If you enjoy them you should also keep an eye out for the upcoming Colin Mcrae Dirt 2 game which features Ken Block.

Mikee Jarvis - Tailslide - Southwold
With the summer coming to a close the builders around the region are getting busy with the last weeks of good light and good weather to finish a bunch of new skateparks around the region. With a new mini-ramp in Southwold opposite the pier as a temporary solution until they can get funding and backing for a concrete one. [Read more →]
