Entries from March 2009

Originally a children’s book by Maurice Sendak, Where The Wild Things Are is being turned into a rather impressive and fun looking film by Video Days’ legendary director Spike Jonze. With loads of collaborations with the Girl and Lakai already on the shelves the hype machine looks like it’s in full flow even though its not due for release until this Autumn/Winter time. Click read more to see the trailer for it.

Lowestoft trio Faster Than Robots ventured over to the big city to play the Edward VII in Norwich last night, having managed to miss several of their previous gigs I was glad they were playing just down the road from where I live, gave me no excuses not to go. Boy am I glad I went, despite the guy before singing songs about Woody Allen, The Goonies and comparing women to broken gas boilers. Faster Than Robots played a brilliantly energetic set, they are playing the Waterfront on 28th May so I’ll be sure to make that one too. Check out the flickr set for more photos.

As a Web Designer you occasionally visit a website and are blown away by something, thinking “I wish I had that idea or their skills” I had one of those moments to day after stumbling upon the Eco Zoo site. The site is a Japanese site promoting eco thinking, it uses some rather fun 3D work similar to the iPhone game Zen Bound, with brilliant characters, pop-up books, ambient sounds and perfect attention to detail. If only I could say it was my creation.

Ash Lever - Tailslide into Bank
On a day that started at Woodbridge skatepark as a warm-up session before some real street, this park ended up being the best part of the day. With super smooth floor, nice transitions and cool little manual/grind block, it beats a windy wasteland spot or a wet ditch any day (I’m sure if the weather had been better I might not being saying that). However this park is a fine example of how councils finally understand they can’t get away with building shoddy tin can parks anymore.

The investigative journailst disguised as a comedian, Mark Thomas is coming to the Playhouse in Norwich on the 24th April (and the 22nd June if you miss him). I’ve been a fan for several years since his Channel 4 TV show The Mark Thomas Product which dealt with some pretty heavy political subjects in an accessible way. Last year I finally got the opportunity to see him live at Latitude Festival, where he dealt primarily with his latest book Belching Out the Devil which is all about Coca-Cola. Even if you are not normally interested in the heavier side of life, I almost guarantee Mark will make you think.
