Graphic design touches every aspect of our lives, mostly mediorce stuff that we don’t really acknowledge as being “designed”. However sometimes you see stuff that really stands out in the sea of boring everyday design. Recently there have been a lot of brilliant political based design works, mainly based around the US presidential elections. However I stumbled upon a short video about the hidden costs of war, have a look and learn something, or just acknowledge it as a good piece of motion graphics.

Frank Turner – UEA LCR – 7th December
October 22nd, 2008 by Stephen Keable · No Comments
Some of you may have heard of this chap, if you were ever into the punk band Million Dead, who he was the singer for. Since their demise Frank has swapped hardcore punk rock, for a more upbeat acoustic rock, sometimes compared with Billy Bragg for his lyrical observations.
I saw Frank at the Waterfront when he was supporting the Holloways, on the advice of my girlfriend who listens to him solidly. And I have to say he was brilliant, despite not really having listened to much of his stuff, his song Photosynthesis had me singing along. Now he’s back in Norwich at the UEA supporting the Levellers on their latest tour.
For tickets visit the UEA box office and be sure to check out Frank’s website.
Also keep an eye on City and Sticks closer to the gig for an interview with Frank.
Listen to Frank Turner on iTunes.
Leiston Skatepark
October 15th, 2008 by Stephen Keable · 1 Comment
Leiston in Suffolk, another shining example of a town in the countryside, not far from the North Sea, which has nothing for young people to do (or older either).
There is a high crime rate among young people, leading to a ban on drinking of alcohol in public places in the town. Among measures previously used to reduce the juvenille crime. Councils have started youth clubs and similar associations for young people, giving them somewhere to go and something to do.

If you don’t venture out of Norfolk much, you might not have seen this site yet. It’s pretty damn good and up to the 11th volume with the 12th on it’s way soon. Be sure to check out what they get up to in the Big Smoke and also look out for the odd Chewy clip.

Southend does Berlin
October 2nd, 2008 by James Walker · 5 Comments
After months and months of pub talk proposing a trip to Berlin, we found ourselves approaching August, and with our lengthy summer holiday rapidly dwindling away still with not so much as a definite plan, it wasn’t looking good. However, we managed to get our act together and within two weeks myself, Joe Hawkes, Charlie Hood, Biff, and Southends favourite Bristolian, Max Griffin, were on our way to Berlin. [Read more →]
