Stop go animation might be synonymous with such wonderful childhood plasticine creations such as Trap Door and Wallace and Gromit or recently the numerous lego based comedy videos on youtube. Some recent favourites have been Deadline (pictured above) and TXT Island.

After a long while lusting over some of the rather nice products that House Industries make, I finally bought a few things a couple of weeks ago. They arrived the other day, so I am now the proud owner of a new mousepad and the jazzy little wooden blocks above. One of the joys of having a father who learnt his trade when there was more to design than just blagging your way through a series of Photoshop tutorials, is that occasionally you get to stumble upon treats such as this ink stained 1970′s Book of Information from Monotype. Which contains information about the history of Monotype, details of the machines available, along with technical specifications, info about fonts and many conversion tables and formulae which are now mainly done for you by your computer.

Graphic design touches every aspect of our lives, mostly mediorce stuff that we don’t really acknowledge as being “designed”. However sometimes you see stuff that really stands out in the sea of boring everyday design. Recently there have been a lot of brilliant political based design works, mainly based around the US presidential elections. However I stumbled upon a short video about the hidden costs of war, have a look and learn something, or just acknowledge it as a good piece of motion graphics.

The wonder haas of typography that is FontShop founded by the brilliant designer Eric Spiekermann has re-launched and re-vamped it’s sister site FontFeed. The site features some rather good articles on typography and graphic design, which act as brilliant source of inspiration to any designer.

When you work for a design studio within a large company, you tend to be limited to a selection of good fonts amongst thousands of boring and ubiquitous ones. These are a few fonts I wish we had but I know probably never will.
